First love never dies

Can somebody give the Oscar statuette to Kate Winslet? Please. In about 1/6 of the movie she is completely naked. That alone merits an Oscar statuette, for boldness. I am talking about her movie The Reader, directed by Stephen Daldry. This movie is based on the book of the same title by Bernhard Schlink.

It tells a story of a teenager who got home sick and was attended to by a stranger (Winslet), and help him. To say thank you for her action, he went back and give her flowers. To cut the story short, they had sex. And more. And then more. The young teenager is in his puberty, and is at his curiousity stage. However, as time goes by, she would require him to read a story to her before they make love. From Homer’s Odyssey, to Twain’s Huckleberry Finn, to Lessing’s and Anton Chekov. Great book selection, there. And this bonding has something to do with what happened to her later.

It is a story of first love, and how it defined the young boy to be what he is later in life. The movie is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the Academy Awards.

The Holocaust/Nazi Germany stories always get the nods at the Oscars.
